Students with Senator Richard Lugar in the U.S. Capitol

Washington Semester Foreign Policy students have a front-row seat to the action as foreign policy is debated, formulated, and implemented. They have unparalleled opportunities to examine firsthand the emerging issues in international relations through direct interaction with lobbyists, decision makers, government officials, public opinion shapers, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the media, and leading academic experts.

Students first examine the institutions, participants, and processes involved in foreign policy-making in our country. Students then study specific issues and regions such as national security; arms control; nuclear nonproliferation; the changing dynamics among the United States, Russia, China, and Europe; and conflicts and challenges in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and South Asia. If you want to understand how international events affect your life, personally and professionally, enroll in the Washington Semester Foreign Policy Program!
