SIS Graduate Research Grants
For SIS graduate students pursuing research.

Tinker-Walker Fellowships, SIS International Development Program
For graduate students in the M.A.I.D. and M.S.D.M. degree programs who are pursuing SRP or thesis research, a practicum, or an internship abroad.

Tinker Field Research Grants, AU Center for Latin American and Latino Studies
For graduate students conducting preliminary dissertation or thesis research in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking Latin American and Caribbean countries.

National Security Education Program, Boren Fellowships
For graduate students studying world regions and languages critical to US interests (excluding Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand).

U.S. Department of State – Critical Language Scholarship
All disciplines eligible.

AU Initiative for Russian Culture (AUIRC) Summer Stipends

For grads, to defray the cost of summer study and/or research in Russia. 

U.S. Fulbright Student Grants
For students who will hold a BA/BS at the time of the grant period and wish to conduct research, study, or teach abroad for a period of 9-12 months.

Cosmos Scholars
A grant program of the Cosmos Club Foundation in support of graduate students at Washington area Universities. The program provides grants to meet specific research needs not covered by other supporting funds.

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships
For students spending one or more academic year abroad or studying a foreign language and culture abroad for three to six months.

Global Studies Foundation
For foreign language and other academic study abroad. Applicants must be studying abroad through an official program offered by an accredited college or university.

IREX
The Individual Advanced Research Opportunities Program (IARO) provides students, scholars and professionals with support to conduct policy-relevant field research in the countries of Eastern Europe and Eurasia.

For full academic year (renewable for second year).

Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation Grants
For research focusing on the social, cultural, economic or political development of Taiwan.

Blakemore Foundation Language Grants
For the advanced study of Asian languages abroad.

IAF PhD Grassroots Development Fellowship Program
IAF Fellowships support dissertation research in Latin America and the Caribbean undertaken by students who have advanced to PhD candidacy in a university in the United States. Fellows must be U.S. citizens or citizens of the independent Latin American countries.

Leo M. Bernstein Graduate Fellowship in American Democracy

For newly accepted graduate students who will begin their degree program at AU in the fall semester. The fellowship is not specifically for study abroad, but graduate fellows receive a maximum of $10,000 per year toward AU tuition.
