Nine SIS Scholars Selected as Presidential Management Fellow Finalists
Nine SIS MA students have been selected by the Office of Personnel Management as Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) for 2010:
- Jeremy Braveboy-Wagner
- Daniel Collier
- Andrew Dumm
- Lisa Freeman
- Joanna Hurlburt
- Clayton Massa
- Alex Mikulsky
- Sara Norman
- Aldo Prosperi
Established in 1977, the Presidential Management Fellowship program is, according to its website, a way to attract “outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs.”
After their selection, finalists may attend a job fair geared specifically to the PMF program, attend specialized training courses, and the chance to obtain a Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Certificate. The two-year paid fellowship includes formal classroom training, work assignments in many federal agencies, and the possibility of continuing in those offices after the Fellow’s official term has ended. An active alumni group (with over 3,500 former Fellows), sponsors professional, social, and networking activities.
Fifteen other students from throughout American University were selected as well, from other fields such as law, political science, and economics.
