How to Apply
The Community Service-Learning Program (CSLP)
The Spring 2012 application is currently closed.
This semester 41 students are serving with 27 different organizations in DC. They are working with organizations ranging from the Iraqi Embassy (planning for an upcoming conference) to the Next Step Public Charter School (assisting students with GED preparation).
Registration for Fall 2012 CSLP will open August 1st.
- Identify the class* to which you wish to attach the CSLP credit.
- Contact your professor and discuss CSLP options (including service site and final projects.)
- Identify and contact the nonprofit organization where you would like to work. Feel free to contact the Center for Community Engagement & Service for help with this. Here is a guide to picking and contacting nonprofit organizations, including email and phone call outreach samples.
- Complete the online application. To do this, you will need to have solidified your 40-hour commitment to a nonprofit organization or school and determined an end-of-semester service-learning project with your professor (see the list of sample projects here).
- Encourage your professor to electronically sign off on your application by 5:00 PM on Friday, February 3rd. We will take care of the rest!
*At this time, the Community Service-Learning Program add-on credit may only be used in conjunction with classes within the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), School of International Service (SIS) and Kogod School of Business.
