New Student Programs - Transfer Transitions

By participating in an orientation program transfer students will gain insight of unique AU campus resources, develop a connection to the AU community, and feel excited about their decision to attend AU.

Eagle Summit

Transfer Orientation

We offer two different orientation programs for our transfer student population. Information about both progams will be mailed out starting in May to all deposit paid transfer students and will continue on a rolling basis though mid-August.

Two Day Program (July 16-17)

Designed for students looking for a more traditional orientation experience, this program will not only provide important information about AU’s distinctive services and resources but also allow for more opportunities to connect socially with other transfer students. In addition to participating in helpful student- and staff-led sessions, you’ll meet with academic units and receive a final class schedule. The $85 fee for this program includes four meals, program materials and giveaways, and activities. You may choose to stay overnight on campus in a residence hall for an additional $75 per night. The fees for guest participation are the same.

One-Day Program (August 22)

This option is designed for transfer students who have already participated in a traditional orientation program and are interested in meeting with academic units and learning basic information about AU’s distinctive services and resources. You’ll meet other new transfer students, visit your school or college, and receive a final class schedule. The $40 fee for this session includes three meals, program materials and giveaways, and activities.

Class Registration

Your AU school or college will mail or email you information about registering for classes and completing other important tasks. If you do not receive information, please contact the advising office of the school or college that houses your intended major. Return registration materials as directed as quickly as possible to facilitate course registration.

Given the number and complexity of requirements in many majors, it is important to create an academic plan with your advisor. He or she will help you develop your interests and goals, review the transfer credits you have been awarded, and register you for your first semester classes.

Note that you won’t register for classes during orientation. Your advisor will review your proposed course selection for your fall 2012 classes, and—if appropriate—clear you to register. You’ll then sign up for your courses using the online AU Registration System. During the Academic Advising session at orientation, an advisor will confirm your course registration and give you a final copy of your class schedule.
