  • Monday, March 19, Butler 407 — Walk-in Sessions from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm    

What is an Discover DC Leader?

Discover DC Leaders are American University students who lead incoming students throughout the DC area to teach them more about how to navigate their new home. They work closely with the NSP Orientation staff, serve as leaders for a designated group of new students during Welcome Week, and are supervised by the Assistant Director of New Student Programs.

What you give:

• Up to 4 days out of your Welcome Week.
• Advice on being a student at AU.
• Serve as a role model to first year students.
• Provide first year students with knowledge about the DC area.
• Provide encouragement and support for first year students.
• Encourage group interaction.
• Ensure student attendance at all Discover DC events.

What you get:

• A fun and informative training program that will prepare you for your role as a Discover DC Leader.
• Valuable navigation, facilitation, and leadership skills.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative, motivation, and professionalism.
• The ability to work as a team leader.
• The ability to adapt to new situations.
• Demonstrated interpersonal communications skills. Proven troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations.
• Enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
• All applicants must be in good academic standing and have a minimum GPA of 2.85.
• Applicants must be in good judicial standing.
• Must attend and participate in all training programs.
• Must be available for all of training and the Discover DC program.
