Working and engaging in internships and other professional development opportunities can be great ways to make the most of your time at AU. Whether you work on campus or intern at an organization in downtown DC, you may have an opportunity for challenging and rewarding experiential education. AU’s Career Services office offers a wealth of information on internship and other employment opportunities.
To be eligible for work and internships during your time here at AU, you’ll need to complete the appropriate documents and items listed below.
While in F-1 or J-1 status you must get authorization before beginning ANY compensated* employment.
* USCIS defines compensated employment as work performed in exchange for a benefit. USCIS would consider employment authorization necessary if your work fits any of the following circumstances:
1. If you receive a salary, hourly wage, fees, books, supplies, transportation, or any other benefit in exchange for work performed.
2. If the individual normally holding your position receives payment.
