Information Technology Department Chair
- Professor Wasil specializes in network optimization and applications of decision-aiding methods. He has published more than 100 technical articles in a wide variety of academic outlets including Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, and Manufacturing and Service Operations Management. In 2005, Professor Wasil and four co-authors received the INFORMS Computing Society Prize for research excellence in the interface between operations research and computer science. He serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Mathematical and Management Sciences and INFOR: Canadian Journal of Operational Research and Information Processing. Since 1992, he has been the Feature Article Editor of the INFORMS Journal on Computing. In 2002 and 2005, Professor Wasil received the Kogod Graduate Business Association award for Distinguished Professor of the Year. In 2006, he was named the American University Scholar/Teacher of the Year.

Additional Information: Edward Wasil's teaching interests include applied business statistics, production and operations management, and management science. His research interests focus on network optimization and applications of metaheuristics to optimization problems. He has published more than 90 technical articles in a variety of areas. He has edited special issues of Interfaces (2008, 1995); American Journal of Mathematical and Management Sciences (1992); Socio-Economic Planning Sciences (1991); and Computers & Operations Research (2003, 1986). He edited Excellence in Management Science Practice (Prentice Hall, 1992) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (Springer-Verlag, 1989). Currently, he serves as feature article editor of the INFORMS Journal on Computing and associate editor of INFOR: Canadian Journal of Operational Research and Information Processing. Wasil was the American University Scholar-Teacher of the Year in 2006. In 2005, he was co-awarded the INFORMS Computing Society Prize for research excellence in the interface between operations research and computer science.
