A Look at the Kogod First Year Experience
Kogod's undergraduate programs begin before the start of classes. All new freshmen attend the Kogod Kick-Off, an orientation featuring team-building exercises, a clubs and activities fair, and mini-case competition to help new students get to know one another.
In Business 1.0, freshmen discover the integrative nature of business and develop a strong foundation in the language, tools, and applications of contemporary business. Throughout the semester, guest lecturers offering further insight into real-world businesses.
Every Business 1.0 lecture also features audience response remote control technology, which facilitates group learning and provides faculty with quick feedback on students' understanding. As students progress through their first year, a number of academic resources are available to help provide support and guidance. Each new Kogod student is assigned to an academic advisor who they may continue to work with throughout their college years.
Academic Advising is an important feature of Kogod, offering students individual advising sessions that are specific and goal oriented. Students can schedule an appointment online with their academic advisor and walk-in hours are regularly scheduled throughout the week. To ensure that every new Kogod student understands the program, requirements and resources available, each student attends First Year Advanced Training and Registration, a program designed to help new students learn how to select and register for courses and manage their academic progress.
As an added resource, the Kogod Undergraduate Advising Team utilizes Blackboard, an on-line reference tool designed to foster interaction among students and faculty.
Kogod Peer Mentors also serve as an important resource for freshmen. Peer Mentors are current Kogod students who have excelled academically and are actively involved in the AU and Kogod communities. Every first year student is assigned to a Peer Mentor who will help them learn about the various resources across campus and provide other guidance to help ease the transition from high school to college.
The Kogod Admissions Office is also available to answer any questions you may have about the undergraduate programs and admissions process.
