The Dr. Cyrus and Myrtle Katzen Arts Center
The Katzen Arts Center opened in 2005 through the generosity of Dr. Cyrus and Myrtle Katzen, and several other benefactors.
The 130,000-square-foot building on Ward Circle is home to the Department of Art and the Department of Performing Arts. It also offers generous studio and classroom space; a 30,000-square-foot gallery to showcase the Katzen and Watkins collections and works by students and visiting artists; the 200-seat Abramson Family Recital Hall; Studio Theatre; dance studio, classrooms, and offices.
The Katzen places art at the center of the AU experience and is an important addition to cultural life in Washington, D.C.
Opportunities still exist to name galleries, special exhibitions, artist studios, and performance venues, as well as to endow scholarships and professorships in the arts.
