Javier Rivera
Assistant Professor
Department of Performing Arts
- Javier is excited to call Washington, DC his new home after being a professional actor/teacher in Chicago, Kansas City, and New York. Javier received his BA in Theatre and Education from American University in DC. He completed his MFA in Acting and Directing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2004. Some of his favorite roles include Michael Evans in DANCING AT LUGHNASA, the wild boy in WILDBOY-THE MUSICAL, Daniel in KISSING FIDEL, and Dr. Caius in THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR. As director he most recently tackled Lorca’s THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA, The Who's TOMMY, and the brand-new devised Docu-Drama SEE SOMETHING/SAY SOMETHING for AU’s Department of Performing Arts. Javier has extensive experience on stage, film, and TV, and is grateful to be able to balance his acting career with his passion for teaching as Assistant Professor of Theatre at American University. Javier received the Princess Grace Award for Acting in 2003, was inducted into American University’s Hall of Fame in 2004, and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity.
